Gift Zinnias Organic Seeds - Hudson Valley Seed Co

  • $4.85

These striking red blooms make perfect presents.

In its native Mexico, the original zinnia was considered an unattractive weed called "mal de ojos." In the mid-1700s, the German Ambassador to Mexico sent seeds to Johan Gottfried Zinn, a professor of botany who provided the first detailed description of the flower--as well as the first comprehensive anatomy of the human eye. A part of the eye is named after him (the zonule of Zinn), and the botanist Carolus Linnaeus posthumously named the zinnia in his honor.

The cut flowers of this variety, Gift Zinnia, are spectacular on their own: a mix of single and double medium blooms. Plants are medium in height, reaching up to 48" by the end of the season.

Pack - contains 100 seeds

Growing Instructions - Direct sow after last frost. Or, sow indoors 4-6 weeks earlier, then transplant into average garden soil in a mostly sunny location. Too much fertility may result in more foliage and fewer blooms. Gift Zinnia is a robust plant, growing to 36-48" tall. Pinch off spent flower heads for continued blooming until frost, or let some go to seed to save for next season.

the buzz from our customers

our mission

My beekeeping journey began over 12 years ago with my oldest daughter begging for a dog, which led us to getting baby chickens instead,  then honey bees were added to our urban backyard farm and the rest is history.

We're urban NYC beekeepers with a mission to help save the bees and other pollinators. Bees have been declining at an alarming rate which can impact the global food supply as bees are essential in pollination.

Our honey is pure and raw and sourced from either our own local hives or small apiaries, like us, from around the country.  We believe in sustainable beekeeping, supporting small local beekeepers who in turn work with small local family farms to help pollinate their crops and bring you real, delicious honey.

REAL BEEKEEPERS.  REAL HONEY.  TASTE THE DIFFERENCE.
